In 2017, the Physics Department with a stronger academic body and consolidated research lines decides to develop a new Master Degree in Physics, gathering the experience and benefiting from the previous Master degree and an updated modern vision of the Program. The Internal Regulations and the Curriculum for the new Master Program in Physics were prepared and a call is made to form the first Faculty in December 2017. During the first semester of 2018, the first group of students entered the Program, with a total of 4 students enrolled and later, in the second semester 2 more students, making a total of 6 students enrolled in 2018. The second semester of 2019 brought the first generation of graduates of the Program counting to the date with a total of 5 graduates.

Considering the strategic objectives of the Faculty of Science and the Department of Physics to promote the graduate programs of the Faculty, the accreditation process (conducted by the National Accreditation Commission) started in 2018 and resulted positively in November 2019. In addition, during this period an improvement plan has been promoted with different initiatives to disseminate the program and update the regulations, which supports the strategic objective of improving the management of graduate programs. Finally, with the new accreditation process, our program maintains its objective of constant improvement, supporting the strategic axis of sustainability of the University of Santiago de Chile and promoting its existing graduate programs.
