PhD Admission

Requirements

To enter the PhD Program, the candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree in Physics or a Professional Title or a related professional title (evaluated by the Program Committee). The candidate must send a letter of application to the Director of the PhD Program, specifying the academic degree to which he / she is applying and the reasons that motivate him / her to start graduate studies. The Program Committee, based on the background documentation and personal interview with the applicant, will recommend or not the admission.

Application Process

Applications to the PhD in Physics are open all year round. Each year, at the end of July and at the end of November, the PhD Program Committee collects, respectively, the applications for the second semester of the current year and for the first semester of the following year. The exact dates are published in due course. Applicants must fill out and attach the documentation requested in the single one application form for graduate programs at the University of Santiago de Chile, administrated by the Vice Rectory of Graduate Studies. At the beginning of the application form, they must indicate whether they are applying for the second semester of the current year or the first semester of the following year.

Documentation 

The single one application form will request the following:

  1. Bachelor of Physics degree certificate or equivalent professional title
  2. Passport or identity card
  3. Photography
  4. Certificate of ranking
  5. Curriculum vitae
  6. Academic transcript of undergraduate grades
  7. Two letters of recommendation from academics that endorse the application to the Program (requested directly by the platform)
  8. Language certificate

Also, attach (as other documents):

  1. A motivation letter, addressed to the Director of the Program, which explains your motivation for applying.
  2. Birth Certificate

Important: Foreign applicants are required to have their documents apostilled.

Interview

The information will be analyzed by the Program Committee. If more background information is required, some applicants may be contacted to have an online interview with the Committee. Finally, based on available information about the candidates, the Committee will deliberate and inform the candidates of the results of their application.

Results

Once accepted to the program, the applicant must register his / her enrollment in order to become a regular student of the PhD Program.
